 Catch the Fire

When Ian Ross arrived in Retford in the middle of October 1999, we were, as a church, in a    position of wanting more.More of God and more of his touch on our indivdual lives and on us corporately as a church. We had had touches and glimpses in the past of God reaching down and impacting lives but things didn’t seem to change much. We wanted to see God move in a new and extraordinary way. As a church we had reached a point of desperation.

God heard our cry.

Starting with a leaders’ day for the leaders of groups within our own fellowship God took us up on our cry and began sorting us out. There were tears, laughter and a release of God's loving touch  into lives. This continued throughout the fortnight as we hosted 'Catch the Fire' events and also on the Tuesday of week one a leaders’ day for Ministers and Church leaders from around the district, where we were able to draw in people  from  a wide variety of churches and areas. It was brilliant to see seventy men and women from 13 churches in the area gathered to receive God's blessing and anointing afresh on our lives. Whatever our agenda and plans for the time had been it soon became obvious that God meant business.

As a church we had felt for some time that it was as if we were in a plane preparing to take off. God said 'Fasten your seat-belts it's in to take off' As a church we have experienced an amazing release   of God. Individuals are being changed, past hurts, pains, fears were lovingly dealt with by God as he revealed His Father heart for each one of us setting us free to be His children, chosen and precious in His sight. And as children we have enjoyed being with our Heavenly Father and there have been times of fun and games, love and laughter, and the chance to cry on our Dad's shoulder.

We are also-rejoicing in a promise from God that He is going to make us a well. A place where people will come to receive refreshing, to be able to drink from the fountain of His love that He is going to place in our Well. And having checked out our history there was indeed at one time a well in the church garden, and praise God that He has restored and reopened the Well so that all may come and drink.
